ETC Phoenix School was founded with the ideals of not only teaching our students academically, but also showing them what it means to be a good person. This is why we spend so much time working on social skills and life skills on top of our advanced adaptive academic curriculum.
To ensure that our students are always striving to be good people, we instituted the 5 Pillars of Excellence: Honesty, Integrity, Kindness, Courage and Perseverance. These are the 5 qualities of which every ETC Phoenix student must strive.
This week we are going to talk a bit more about our first pillar, Honesty.
Having worked as educators in other educational institutions from Kindergarten through Post-Secondary Education; we, the Directors of ETC Phoenix School, both agreed that we wanted our school to be different. We offer full transparency with our staff and the parents of our students, not only because we feel that they deserve it (which we do), but because we believe in leading by example and always being honest.
Honesty is something that we teach to our students on a daily basis. We want them to see that they have nothing to fear from being honest. In a few of our lessons, there have been times when I may misspeak or my tired, old brain forgets something important and I have to look it up to make sure. When these occurrences happen, I always make a priority to point out my mistake and give my students the correct information. Let's face it, as educated, intelligent and wise as I may be, God did not make me infallible; and because I choose to always be honest about it, my students know that they can always trust me to be strait-forward and honest with them.
So why must a Phoenix always strive to be honest? Not just because it's a virtue, or because the Bible tells us to; but rather because Honesty builds Trust. Trust is a gift that is given when someone can see that good that radiates from your heart and soul. So, to truly be a good person and to strive for excellence in all that you do, Honesty is an absolute must.
Sincerely,
Dr. Frank Munroe
